What do I do after I complete the Conquer Series?

Seven Pillars of Freedom

The Conquer Series lays out a powerful road map for recovery, but we know the journey out of a struggle with pornography takes more than 6 weeks, so what do we do once we complete the Conquer Series?

This is a question we often receive from churches who understand the need for an ongoing process of accountability and healing.

Dr. Ted Roberts, host of the Conquer Series, has created a powerful recovery process called the Seven Pillars of Freedom which is a great follow up course that allows men to put into place what they’ve learnt in the Conquer Series. If the Conquer Series is boot camp, then the Seven Pillars of Freedom is the ongoing training that helps men go into combat and finish the journey well.

The course is based on the workbook (unfortunately no DVD like in the Conquer Series) and each pillar has 5 lessons, so 35 lessons in total. This means that the course will go for 35 weeks or up to a year depending on how the group breaks up the work.

Each participant will complete a weekly review of the FASTER Scale which helps them understand their emotional triggers, as well as a commitment to change while addressing the following Seven Pillars:

  • Pillar 1: Breaking through denial
  • Pillar 2: Understanding the nature of sexual addiction
  • Pillar 3: Surrendering to the process
  • Pillar 4: Limiting damage
  • Pillar 5: Establishing sobriety
  • Pillar 6: The battle is in your mind
  • Pillar 7: A spiritual growth plan

We now have a Seven Pillars of Freedom kit available, which includes not only the Seven Pillars of Freedom Workbook, but also the Seven Pillars of Freedom Journal and the Pure Desire book.Seven PIllars of Freedom Kit

Seven Pillars of Freedom Journal

The journal reinforces the daily commitment to your recovery and spiritual growth. It includes the following tools:

  • The Commitment to Change identifies the need to change.
  • The daily devotional helps you to dig into God’s Word.
  • The FASTER scale helps you identify when you are reacting to emotions.

Pure Desire

In Pure Desire, Dr. Ted Roberts writes about a lot of the analogies and concepts that he presents during the Conquer Series. Reading this book is a great way to reinforce what you have learnt in your first five weeks of group.

The Conquer Series groups that we are seeing have the most success in participants walking out sustained sobriety and ongoing spiritual growth are the ones that continue on into the Seven Pillars of Freedom. One Conquer Group Leader has recently told us,

“All members of the group express this as being the best small group study they have been involved in. They are also growing greatly in overcoming their addiction and becoming the men Christ designed them to be.”

Pretty cool, I’m going to have to order this. Also, I would recommend finding and attending a Celebrate Recovery.

      Philip,
While I’ve heard wonderful things about CR, I’ve also heard from reliable sources your Pure Desire group goes deeper and more specific into the issues you face with sexual addiction than Celebrate Recovery will. The beauty of being in a Pure Desire group is that the process will engage your addictive predisposition on the whole, and as a result, you will be equipped to engage all addictions in your life.

We offer both the conquer series and the seven pillars in our church. The result we get with the two combined has made an great impact on all who complete the process.
