Dr. Joe McIlhaney is a prominent obstetrician and gynecologist and the Founder/Chairman of the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, a pro-abstinence medical research organization he established in 1992. He served on the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS and on the Advisory Committee to the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 1995, he left his private practice to work full-time with the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, as he realized the extraordinary magnitude of the STI epidemic. Since 1992 the Medical Institute has been a leading voice providing medically accurate, research-based sexual health information to diverse audiences, ranging from healthcare professionals to policymakers, parents and youth. Dr. McIlhaney is the author of several books including “Hooked”, where he explains why sex outside of marriage brings along so much psychological baggage: “Hooking up” is the easy part, but “unhooking” from the bonds of a sexual relationship can have serious and lasting consequences.
