Why I Brought The Conquer Series To My Church

Church in the Fall

We received this powerful testimony from one of our Conquer Leader’s who has stepped up to the challenge, taken up his sword and is leading other men to victory in Christ!

I had been reading Charisma Magazine online for several years. One day, I noticed the advertisement for the Conquer Series.

At first, I really didn’t give it much thought. After several weeks of seeing the ad daily, I clicked on it. After all, if men are being freed from pornography, I wanted to know more. I viewed the trailer and was deeply moved. I immediately ordered the DVD’s and began to watch them.

About halfway through the series, I started to realize that God might be calling me to start a Conquer Series group in my church. As far as I know, I have never said no to God when He called me to do something…but it was different this time.

I was scared.

I began pleading with God, “Please, don’t make me do this.”

I shared a little bit about the Conquer Series with my wife and she said, “Just keep watching the DVD’s and pray. God will let you know if He wants you to do something.” The uncomfortable feeling began to grow. I shared this with our leadership team at church, and they said, “Let’s just pray and see what God is doing.”

The next morning, the Holy Spirit began to speak. He led me to Matthew 6:22-23 which tells us that our eye is like a lens. The eye determines the amount of light or darkness that we let in. If we let in light, our vision is clear. If we let in darkness, our vision is blurry.

Next, The Spirit led me to Proverbs 29:18 which tells us that we need a prophetic vision from God to guide our life and our purpose. Then God revealed why He was calling me to bring the Conquer Series to my church:

When we view things that communicate truth, we are filled with light. When we view things that are not aligned with The Truth, such as pornography or suggestive images we are filled with darkness.

This was not a surprise to me. What I discovered next was a surprise:

God is speaking a prophetic vision to us continuously through His Word and His Spirit. When our vision is occupied with sexually explicit images, the dialog of accusation and shame in our heart is overwhelming: “God doesn’t love you. You are an abomination to Him. He can’t forgive you. You are the worst Christian ever…”

If almost 70% of the men in church are addicted to pornography, then 70% of the men are not hearing God clearly because of this dialog of lies inspired by the enemy of our souls.

This is why men need to be delivered from pornography. Once we are delivered, and our mind is transformed by God’s word, we will hear the prophetic vision that God is speaking to us and that will become our greatest purpose. Our family, the church, and the world is depending on us and our ability to embrace God’s prophetic vision for our lives.

This is how God called me to bring the Conquer Series to my church. In less than 24 hours, God flipped me completely from fearful resistance to an enthusiastic embrace of His call.

Since then we have completed 3 Conquer Groups and we are starting groups 4, 5, and 6 in two weeks. God is doing an amazing work in my life and the lives of my brothers in Christ. We are learning to battle well together.

If God is calling you to bring the Conquer Series to your church, I would encourage you to do it. When God calls us, He equips us with the gifts, passions, and people that we need to fulfill His call. It’s OK to be scared. It’s OK to struggle. I know that whenever we give ourselves to God, He does incredible things.
